Recent changes to Sage Final Accounts include:

22 August 2018

Feature Summary
Republic of Ireland Micro-entity (FRS 105) We’re pleased to announce the first compliance pack for the Republic of Ireland. You can now create a set of compliant accounts for Micro-entities reporting under FRS 105 in the Republic of Ireland. This compliance is relevant for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2017, early application is permitted.
This new Compliance Pack includes:

  • Option to create a dormant set of accounts in accordance with Section 365 of Companies Act 2014.
  • Option to abridge the CRO set of accounts for the purpose of filing with Companies Registration Office (CRO) in accordance with Section 353 of Companies Act 2014.
  • Easy to download the CRO set of accounts for filing purposes to Companies Online Registration Environment (CORE).
  • Option to generate the Revenue set of accounts in PDF or iXBRL format for submission to Revenue with the Corporation Tax return.

iXBRL

  • Easy to create a set of accounts in iXBRL format with all the iXBRL tags automatically applied including all the mandatory iXBRL tags to ensure a valid submission file to Revenue.
  • The Revenue set of accounts includes a Detailed profit and loss account with all the iXBRL tags automatically applied.

Check set of accounts

  • Specific validations have been included to provide more information to help ensure that the sets of accounts are accurate and compliant. The validations ensure a compliant iXBRL file is created for Revenue and a compliant PDF for CRO purposes.

    Feature Summary
    Client Record We’ve updated the styling of the historical sets of accounts grids so that they are more usable.
    Status Resolved an issue where the set of accounts status (In progress / Finished) is hidden behind the Accounts Preview tab on some screen sizes.
    Nominal Account We’ve aligned the styling for both Create and Edit Nominal Accounts so that you have a consistent experience.
    Initial / Comparative Trial Balance entry We have updated the logic that enables you to create multiple Initial / Comparative Trial Balance Journals by using the browser back button.

    Now, when you use the Browser Back button to go back to the Nominal Account Allocation screen, you will edit the existing Initial / Comparative Trial Balance journal rather than creating a new one.
    Populate Trial Balance When exporting the Nominal Account allocations to CSV, the correct title now appears in the CSV file.
    Nominal Groups Updated the logic on the Nominal Groups to ensure you can still see the Nominal Group balances after the Initial Trial Balance journal is deleted.
    Nominal Groups > Nominal Account view Prevented the table rows from being clickable when there are no postings to this Nominal Account in the period.
    Navigation Resolved an issue where the section links on the Accounts Preview were not taking you to the right place in the accounts.
    Accounts Preview Resolved an issue where the Presentation Options remained on-screen after removing a section from the set of accounts.
    AAT Accountants Report The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) have a template for the Accountants Report. This has been added to the latest FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A Compliance Packs.

    Further Information
    FRC Triennial review 2017 When using the latest FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A Compliance Packs, you can now choose to early adopt the amendments to within the Triennial review 2017.

    Officers and Professional Advisers Within the latest FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A Compliance Packs, we have resolved an issue where the information box “You haven’t entered any officers who are active in the current financial period” didn’t take you to the correct data entry location.
    Directors Report We have resolved an issue where the logic used to calculate the number of directors for sets of accounts based on the latest FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A Compliance Packs.
    Statement of Total Comprehensive Income Within the latest FRS 102 Section 1A Compliance Pack, we have resolved an issue where an updated company name was not being updated within the Statement of Total Comprehensive Income section.
    UK Sole Trader The Compliance Pack has been updated to include:

    Data changes

    • New option to choose whether the accountant is a sole practitioner or an accounting firm which changes the wording on the Accountant’s report.

    Accountant’s report changes

    • Accountant’s report now shows a single report heading in the PDF for all report styles chosen.
    • Accountant’s report wording now supports either a sole practitioner or an accounting firm by switching the text on the Accountant’s report accordingly for all report styles.

    UK Micro-entity (FRS 105) Chart of accounts changes

    Data changes

    • New option to choose whether the accountant is a sole practitioner or an accounting firm which changes the wording on the Accountant’s report.

    Set of accounts changes

    • On the Accounts Preview the Full report is now more clearly described as the Members report.

    FRS 105 Triennial review 2017 changes

    • Addition of an ‘Average number of employees’ note in accordance with paragraph 577 of Triennial review 2017
    • Addition of an ‘Off-balance sheet arrangements’ note in accordance with paragraph 577 of Triennial review 2017

    Directors report

    • Directors apostrophe improvement applied to the following areas:

      • Directors report
      • Directors advance, credit and guarantees note

    • Directors report section on Incorporation and change of name heading improvement to ensure the correct description resolves in all cases.
    • Political donations and expenditure has been improved as follows:

      • Political donations and expenditure introduction text has been changed to political donations rather than political contributions.
      • Non-EU Political donations nominal code 8190 has been removed from the Chart of Accounts and this data is now located in the Data tab.
      • EU Political donations chart code 8180 has been renamed to Political donations.
      • Output rules for Political donations and expenditure within the Directors report has been improved given the changes to the Non-EU Political donations data detailed above.
      • The location of Non-EU Political party contributions now appears after Political expenditure paragraph, within the Directors report.

    • Registered office has been removed from the Directors report for simplicity as there is no compliance requirement to show the address and the registered office information is also located in Officer and Professional Advisers section.

    Accountant’s report changes

    • Accountant’s report now shows a single report heading in the PDF for all report styles chosen.
    • Accountant’s report wording now supports either a sole practitioner or an accounting firm by switching the text on the Accountant’s report accordingly for all report styles.
    • New report style option to choose the AAT Accountant’s report for AAT members, in response to customer feedback.

    Detailed Income Statement

    • Individual detailed income statement tables are now fully aligned with the income statement headings.
    • Fully reworked to reflect the Chart of Accounts changes
    • The ‘restated’ reference in the table headers are now applied to the relevant tables only i.e. those tables containing a restatement rather than all detailed income statement tables.
    • Logic has been applied to Nominal Accounts which cover both income and expense items such as ‘Gain or loss on disposal of tangible assets’ to ensure that the balance is correctly reflected in the correct income statement category.

    On application of the compliance pack update any nominal postings to Non-EU Political donations will be lost and the values will need to be entered in the Data entry. Non-EU Political donations disclosure appears in the Directors report.


    These changes will take place when, either a new set of accounts is created or you update to the new compliance pack.
    UK Small Limited Company (FRS 102 Section 1A) The Compliance Pack has been updated to include:

    Chart of Accounts changes

    • The Shareholders funds (restated) nominal group should only be used in the comparative period so this has been corrected.
    • Improvements to some of the Nominal Account descriptions for consistency.

    Data changes

    • Capitalisation consistently applied to all headings within the Data Entry.
    • New option to choose whether the accountant is a sole practitioner or an accounting firm which changes the wording on the Accountant’s report.

    Set of Accounts changes

    • Abridged Statement of consent has now been moved to the Statement of financial position, below the Directors responsibilities. Any changes previously made to this statement will be lost on update.
    • Information messages have been improved to ensure they show when required in the following areas:

      • Cover Page with regards to the Accountant’s details
      • Officers and Professional Advisers
      • Officers names on the Directors report
      • Statement of Financial Position sign off

    • Directors apostrophe improvement applied to the following areas:

      • Directors report
      • Directors advances, credit and guarantees note

    • Directors report section on Incorporation and change of name heading improvement to ensure the correct description resolves in all cases.
    • Ability to now enter both positive and negative values into the data entry for disclosures required within the following notes:

      • Profit before tax
      • Exceptional items
      • Financial instruments
      • Related party transactions

    • Improved rules on the opening rows of the fixed assets movement notes so they are consistent.
    • Improved wording on the introductory paragraph and restated description in the Transition to FRS 102 note.

    FRS 102 Triennial review 2017 changes

    • You can now choose to early adopt the amendments to FRS 102 within the Triennial review 2017, when creating a new set of accounts or any time within Set of Accounts Options > Period Options > Compliance Pack.
    • The Statement of Compliance has been amended to reflect early adoption of the Triennial review 2017.
    • The Investment property accounting policy wording has been amended to reflect the fact that those adopting the Triennial review 2017 can no longer measure investment property under the cost model.
    • The Fair Value Reserve note has been amended to reflect the fact that those adopting the Triennial review 2017 no longer need to disclose details of the treatment for taxation purposes.

    Accountant’s Report changes

    • Accountant’s Report wording now supports either a sole practitioner or an accounting firm by switching the text on the Accountant’s Report accordingly for all report styles.
    • New report style option to choose the AAT Accountant’s report for AAT members, in response to customer feedback.

    Detailed income statement

    • Improved descriptions on the face of the Detailed Income Statement for consistency, for the following items:

      • Profit/(loss) on disposal of tangible assets now refers to assets
      • Profit/(loss) on disposal of tangible assets now refers to assets
      • Impairment of intangible assets, improved capitalisation

    When you update to the latest Compliance Pack, any prior changes to text made on the Abridged statement of consent will be lost. The statement now appears on the Statement of Financial Position.

    Addresses For sets of accounts based on the latest Compliance Packs, you can now change the Country within addresses to one of the following:

    Nominal Groups We’ve updated the Nominal Group views so that they always show Nominal Accounts in a consistent order based on the Nominal Account codes.

    Feature Summary
    UK Small Limited Company (FRS 102 Section 1A) You can now create dormant sets of accounts in accordance with Section 1169 of the Companies Act 2006. We automatically include the relevant Company Law disclosures.

    You can make this selection when creating a new set of accounts or at any time within Set of Accounts Options > Period Options > Compliance Pack.
    UK Small Limited Company (FRS 102 Section 1A We have now included an option to easily control whether a filleted set of accounts is filed to Companies House, in accordance with Section 444 of the Companies Act 2006. Previously the filleted option has been automatically applied to the Companies House set of accounts.

    Choosing the filleted option will automatically remove all sections not required for filing purposes by Section 444 from the Companies House set of accounts.

    The Companies House set of accounts shows the description “Filleted” on the Cover page, which will help Companies House easily identify filleted sets of accounts to ensure they are filed correctly.
    UK Small Limited Company (FRS 102 Section 1A) The Compliance Pack has been updated to include:
    Chart of account changes:

    • Corrected the nominal group description for Patents, trademarks and licences – Cost and Patents, trademarks and licences – Cost brought forward.
    • Changed the description of the Other comprehensive income movement nominal accounts and related groups for each reserve to Other movements in other comprehensive income. ·
    • Removed nominal group Called up share capital as it is no longer used in the set of accounts.
    • Removed nominal group Equipment hire and rental as it is no longer used in the set of accounts.

    Set of accounts changes:

    • New option to show True and fair notes which can be included in the set of accounts in relation to FRS 102, 1A 16. The additional notes available are as follows:

      Turnover
      Taxation
      Obligations under finance leases
      Deferred taxation
      Provisions for liabilities
      Employee benefits
      Government grants
      Share capital
      Financial instruments
      Business combinations

    • Profit before tax note includes the option to add additional rows for true and fair purposes.
    • Related party transactions note can now be disclosed in a table format including the existing text disclosure option.
    • Investment property note, brought forward row output rules aligned with other notes for consistency.
    • Introduction paragraph for the Investments held at valuation table are now wrapped together for improved page breaking and presentation in the PDF set of accounts.
    • Abridged debtors note statement corrected so it doesn’t refer to comparative for first year of trading.
    • To ensure a consistent approach with other areas we have updated the Abridged debtors note amounts falling due after more than one year statement to show a “Nil” rather than a dash when the value is nil.
    • Improved the Debtors note output rules to ensure the table has content in all cases.
    • Improved spacing presentation on the Statement of income and retained earnings which will be visible in the PDF set of accounts.
    • Improved description for Other movements in other comprehensive on the Statement of total comprehensive income, Statement of changes in equity and Fair value reserve note.

  • Check set of accounts We’ve improved the validations to provide more information to help ensure that the sets of accounts are both accurate and will create 100% compliant iXBRL files for both HMRC and Companies House.

    For example: The 2018 balance of Profit and loss brought forward is £3,000 does not match the 2017 balance of Profit and loss carried forward which is £4,000.

    You can drill into the balances to determine why a difference may have occurred.

    This new Check set of accounts functionality is available in the latest Compliance Packs:

    Create set of accounts We’ve extended the create set of accounts functionality to provide further guidance.
    We’ve added an information icon on the options available when creating a new set of accounts based on the Small Limited Company (FRS 102 Section 1A) Compliance Pack. Specifically, we now provide information on the options available for preparing dormant accounts and preparing filleted accounts.

    Nominal Groups We’ve extended the Nominal Group summary to allow you to view all the journal entries posted to each nominal account.

    You no longer need to drill into each individual nominal account to determine what makes up each balance.

    UK Small Limited Company (FRS 102 Section 1A) We’ve created a new compliance pack for UK small limited companies reporting under FRS 102 Section 1A which is relevant for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2016, early adoption permitted.

    Updates notification We’ve simplified and improved the Updates window which provides information about changes in the Sage online ecosystem. You can choose to adopt the changes into each set of accounts.

    For example: If there is a new compliance pack available or the business details have been updated in Accounting Partner Edition, we will notify you of the change so that you can choose to adopt the latest information.

    To access the Updates window when in a set of accounts, go to Set of Accounts Options> Updates.
    iXBRL We have resolved an issue in the iXBRL accounts which caused numbers to appear as #.
    PDF set of accounts We’ve resolved an issue which caused ?? to appear instead of note numbers, when custom notes were added and removed.
    Populate from Accounting If your client is an Accounting customer, you have the option to populate an initial trial balance from their Accounting information.

    We have resolved an issue where the logic used to calculate Nominal account balances was using Accrual or Cash Basis accounting rules.
    Visual enhancements We have addressed a number of usability issues:

    Initial / Comparative Trial Balance entry We’ve added a filter to both the initial and comparative trial balance entry screens so that you can search for either a nominal code or description.

    This will make it easier to find the correct nominal accounts when entering the initial trial balance and the comparative trial balance.

    • Resolved an issue where some nominal accounts were not being included in the Profit (restated) and Capital and reserves (restated) nominal groups.

    • Improved the PDF file by including a signature line where the set of accounts are signed. This is available in the Directors Report, Accountant’s Report and the Statement of Financial Position.
    • Updated the ICAEW Accountant’s Report template in line with the ICAEW Technical Release – TECH07/16AAF

    Accountant’s Report We’ve made some parts of the ICAEW accountant’s report template editable so you have the choice to tailor wording to be in line with the latest ICAEW Technical releases.

    Initial / Comparative Trial Balance entry The trial balance is displayed in nominal account categories. This will make it easier to find the correct sections when entering the initial trial balance and the comparative trial balance.

    Create set of accounts We’ve extended the create set of accounts functionality so that you can now choose which reporting standard you want to apply to a set of accounts.

    When you choose to create a set of accounts for a limited company, you then choose to apply the required reporting standard for the company size.

    Accounting Partner Edition We’ve relaunched Sage One Accountant Edition and it’s now called Accounting Partner Edition. This doesn’t affect your access or the amount you pay but it does bring a raft of new features.

    • Multiple users – You can now have multiple users for your practice. Once you’ve added them to Sage One, each colleague can use their own email address to sign in. See Manage users
    • Adding multiple clients – We’ve improved the process for adding multiple clients. You’ll upload a spreadsheet and they’ll be added in one step. See Add clients
    • Improved client list – The client list has been refreshed to offer more flexibility in how clients are ordered. You’ll also find that clicking a client’s name now opens the client sidebar where you can access the key client information and access Sage Final Accounts.

    We’ve created the No guidance accountant’s report style to be fully customisable so you can include the wording of the institute or association you are a member of.

    For example: If you are a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), you can choose to utilise the No guidance accountant’s report style and then edit the wording to suit your needs.

    • A fix to link the Nominal Account 5050 – Pension costs – Cost of sales to the Nominal Group Defined contribution pension costs so the nominal account is correctly included within the Defined contribution scheme in the Pensions and other post-retirement benefits note.

    This change will only happen for new sets of accounts created with the UK Small Limited Company (FRSSE 2015) compliance pack.

    Special characters in note text We’ve resolved a problem that prevented the generation of the PDF accounts when special characters were entered into the text blocks on the Accounts Preview.

    We now cater for special characters that were copied and pasted into the text block from other applications such as Microsoft Word.

    Online submissions We now allow users to re-generate the iXBRL accounts in all cases where the submission to Companies House was either Rejected or Failed.

    Notification improvements All your notifications of success, errors and warnings are shown with a new animation and styling. You’ll see this at the bottom of the application after saving data.

    • A fix to resolve a typo in the Detailed Profit and Loss Account. If you posted to Nominal Account 7020 – Directors Remuneration, the Directors Remuneration heading in the Staff costs section of the Detailed Profit and Loss Account was misspelt showing as Directors remueneration
    • A fix to resolve a typo in the Detailed Profit and Loss Account. If you posted to Nominal Account 7700 – Equipment Hire, in the Detailed Profit and Loss Account, the Equipment Hire and Rental section was misspelt showing Equipmement hire and rental.

    We’re really sorry that that these typo’s slipped through our quality control processes.
    In general we release changes to Compliance Packs as updates, leaving you in full control over whether to adopt the change or not. In this case, we have taken the decision to update all sets of accounts with the fixes immediately.

    We’ve made a change so that when you create a new set of accounts for the following accounting period, the trial balance allocation choices are remembered. This will speed up the process of preparing sets of accounts for the second period onwards.
    iXBRL Resolved an issue in the small limited company (FRSSE 2015) Compliance Pack that caused an iXBRL ‘duplicate ids’ error when submitting to HMRC.

    The root cause: On updating to the new Compliance Pack, the Previous Company Name data was not being copied to the set of accounts correctly.

    Compliance Packs When you create a new set of accounts based on an existing set of accounts AND we’ve updated the compliance pack used in that set of accounts, you’ll see a message: Compliance pack updated.

    The Updates window provides information about what has been changed in the compliance pack. You can get to the Updates window when in a set of accounts by: Set of Accounts Options > Updates
    Changing client type Depending on the complexity of the client’s set of accounts, changing to a different client type may take a short time.

    If you return to the main summary page for the client, and attempt to open a set of accounts being changed to a new client type, you’ll see a holding page until the change is complete. This won’t take long and is to make sure you don’t inadvertently change anything that might affect the process. Wait a couple of minutes, and try again.
    Comparative Trial Balance You can now access the comparative trial balance from the Journals list. From Trial Balance > Journals.

    From the Journals list, you can click to edit it, or click the delete icon to remove it from the set of accounts.
    Sample accounts To demonstrate the kind of output you can expect, we’ve included some sample accounts for you to take a look at. You’ll find sample accounts for each compliance pack.
    Updates notification Each time we update the application, you’ll be notified by the new features pop-up in the application. You can close this at any time by clicking the close button.

    • Nominal codes 5020 to 5050 have been added for wages and salaries cost of sales codes.

    • Duplicate and unused nominal groups have been removed.

    • Abbreviation of ‘NBV’ in nominal groups has been amended to say ‘net book value’.

    • Nominal code 9000 description changed from ‘current tax’ to ‘corporation tax’.


    Advice: As we have added some additional nominal accounts, if these were already used they will have a new nominal account number.

    • Depreciation policy now includes all types of asset classes.

    • Dividends note will appear in the preview tab based on nominal account postings and entry into the data tab.

    • Amendment to correct the profit and loss account gross profit line output and ensure this appears in all appropriate situations.

    • Rename of current tax accounting policy block.

    • Current tax accounting policy added to the abbreviated accounts, and accounting policies re-ordered to agree to the full accounts.

    • Extended automatic iXBRL tagging in deferred tax note.

    • The detailed profit and loss account will now appear based on profit before tax rather than profit after tax.

    • Company secretary in officers and professional advisers page will automatically appear when using both the drop down menu in the data tab or manual entry.

    • Updated the website address link on the on the ICAS Accountants report.
