Earned Income - Create Employment

Enter details of your client’s employment.

Employment Information

Enter the Employer name and PAYE reference where indicated. These will appear on boxes 4 and 5 of page E1 of the return and on Report Preview.

If appropriate, enter where indicated the date of commencement and date of cessation of the employment.

If your client is the director of the company, tick Director of company. This will open additional rows to enable you to enter the date of cessation of the directorship, if appropriate, and to confirm whether the directorship is of a close company.

If your client has provided their services through their own limited company, or another type of intermediary, to a client and had income tax and National Insurance deducted, tick Employment income is from off-payroll working engagements.

If there was an outstanding balance on a disguised remuneration loan received between 6 April 1999 and 5 April 2019 from a third party in respect of an employment, include the total amount of the loan that remained outstanding on 5 April 2019 in Pay from this employment, include any amount of tax on that amount which the employer has paid to HMRC under PAYE in UK tax deducted from this employment and tick Pay from this employment includes disguised remuneration income.

Ignore loan repayments made on or after 17 March 2016 that were not repaid in money.

Do not include an amount if a full and final settlement has been reached with HMRC.

If this employer no longer exists or is offshore, do not include the details here. Instead, enter the amount in Other Information, Disguised Remuneration.

Pay and Tax

Enter where indicated:

  • Pay received from the employment
  • Tips and other income
  • UK tax deducted.

These figures will populate boxes 1, 2 and 3 of page E1 of the return and be included on Report Preview.

Allowable Employment Expenses

Employment expense type

Select from the drop-down menu:

  • Business travel and subsistence
  • Fixed deductions
  • Professional fees and subscriptions
  • Other expenses and capital allowances

The information entered on these rows is included on Report Preview.

Enter a description of the expense. This will appear on Report Preview.

Enter the amount of the expense. This will appear on Report Preview and be used to populate boxes 17 to 20 on page E1 of the tax return.

A new Expenses row is created when entries are made on the row above.

From the drop-down Save menu:

  • Click Save and Close to save your entries and return to Earned Income Employment
  • Click Save and New to save your entries and open a new Earned Income – Create Employment page.
